So, yesterday I built a really quick and simple “Escape Room” app for my youth group that I am in charge of. I wanted to share it here because it was a fun little project and I think it could be useful for others. We tried it out last night and the kids had a blast!

I have been wanting to do an escape room with my youth group for a while now but I have never had the time to put one together. I have also been wanting to build an app for my youth group for a while now but I have never had the time to put one together. So, I decided to combine the two and build an app that would allow me to do an escape room with my youth group.

It’s super simple and only has three challenges right now. It has a timer that keeps track throughout and I even created a word scramble game. The second challenge is just a blank challenge that says “Complete the puzzle”, which is an actual physical puzzle that I handed the kids to put together. I wanted the game to allow for physical challenges as well as digital ones, so the kids weren’t just starting at the screen the whole time.

None of the code is reusable as it is, which is something I want to change with it so I can reuse it for future youth group nights. I am hoping to add more challenges and make it more customizable in the future.
