I Started Learning Unity and It's Been a Blast!

I have always been a gamer, ever since my parents bought us a Nintendo Entertainment System when I was a kid. I have always wanted to make games, and have dabbled with it in various stages of life. I have made a few games in the past, but mainly just some simple browser games, but also an iOS game called Panda Dash. I have always wanted to make a game that I could be proud of and that I could share with others.

I have wanted to get into Virtual Reality development ever since I played Beat Saber a few years ago. Once you have experienced a taste of VR it is hard to resist. With the Apple Vision Pro headset getting released recently, I had to jump in and start doing something, so I got going with Unity and started learning how to make VR games on my Meta Quest 3.

The Meta Quest 3 is a great headset to get if you are just getting started into VR. The price is not terrible compared to the Apple Vision Pro, which allowed me to buy two so my family could have access to one while I’m developing.

I found a great tutorial on YouTube by Valem Tutorials that has been a great starting point for me.

The first thing I did was build a cube in Unity and then I made it move. It was a simple task, but it was so rewarding to see it work.

I then worked on being able to shoot red balls from my right hand controller. I was able to get that working and it was so much fun to see it work.

I have a few game ideas that I am looking forward to working on and developing further so this is a great start for me.

I’m looking forward to documenting this journey. I hope to share my progress and what I learn along the way. I hope to inspire others to get into VR development as well. It is a great time to get into it and I am excited to see what the future holds for VR.
